Tink Tink Tink

"Ladies and gentlemen, and Felicity, I'd like to propose a toast...
To the fact that Brokeback Mountain did NOT win the Best Picture Oscar!"

::bottoms up::

(Okay, so I know that you don't really "bottoms up" on a toast. But we were excited.)

(And 1000 points to Jon Stewart for the "ladies, gentlemen and Felicity" joke. Anyone else get it?)

Yes, hurrah! And Rachel noted to me that I won the best makeup Oscar . . .

Oh, and David wanted me to tell you that using the phrase "bottoms up" right after "Brokeback Mountain" disturbed him.

I don't normally comment on my own blog, but I had to clarify...

No, none of us at the Train Station actually saw "Brokeback Mountain". (Except for Andrew, who walked in on a few scenes while working at the theater.)

Nor do any of us have the desire to.

Did you see it?

I did. I thought it was a good movie. It was well directed, had beautiful cinematography, and portrayed some colorful characters. The story was moving. And, yes, it was about gay men. However, it was also about their wives (some fantastic acting on their part) and other people affected by these two men. I don't know that it should have won Best Picture. I didn't see "Crash" or many other movies to have a real opinion. Does the fact that it's about homosexuality determine whether or not it should make Best Picture? Also, it's a movie. It may not have won the award, but does that somehow mean we have "victory" over the heart-breaking presence of homosexuality in real life?
