Movies Seldom Leave Me Speechless...

... but this one did (at least for a moment; then I wrote a blog post about it). I just watched M. Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable for the first time. Allow me a slight moment of indulgence.

The premise of the movie was intriguing. The plot, seamless. The character development, engaging. The acting, phenomenal. The cinematography, breathtaking. The attention to detail, absolutely impeccable.

The music by James Newton Howard (who has done all of Shyamalan's films), while not memorable in a melodic sense, was nevertheless extremely effective in both matching and helping to set the tone of the film throughout. Plus the main motif was in the Mixolydian mode, which I always enjoy.

Note to self: New career goal. Make music as well as M. Night Shyamalan makes movies.
